Physical Education at GLPA

All children at GLPA have the opportunity to be active, have fun and to achieve their personal best in physical education (PE) lessons.

Vision statement created with help from children, parents and staff, May 2015.

To achieve our vision, PE looks like this:

  • Children are active for 90-95% of lessons

  • High quality equipment is used to engage and create positive attitudes

  • Individuals know what they are learning and how they can be successful

  • Children have time to discuss their learning and to solve problems together

Core Values created with help from children, parents and staff, May 2015.

What’s happening in 2015/16?

The Government are providing primary schools with a sport premium until the year 2020. This money is ring-fenced to be spent only on PE and school sport.

This year, a TLR (Teaching and Learning Responsibility) role will be funded to work more closely with staff, supporting our delivery of high quality PE. This role will also ensure that links between local schools are maintained so that children can access a number of high quality competition pathways in sport. The TLR will track all pupils’ participation in physical activity and provide bespoke activities for targeted children.

Some of the funding will also be used to cover the cost of staff training on externally-run PE courses and on hiring specialist coaches to support our staff in academy PE lessons. This will form part of teachers’ ongoing professional development; supporting teachers in the delivery of outstanding PE lessons across all age phases this year and the development of outstanding long term planning for future years.

High quality equipment will also be purchased this year to support the continuous improvement of PE lessons, academy sport and extra-curricular clubs.

Furthermore, extra swimming lessons will be offered to targeted pupils as we strive to ensure all children leave GLPA meeting national curriculum requirements and confident in the water.

PE Kit

Our Academy PE kit consists of:

  • a plain white t-shirt

  • a pair of navy blue shorts

  • a pair of black pumps

  • a named water bottle

We would recommend that all children bring their PE kit in a suitable bag (a simple drawstring bag would be ideal) every Monday ready for the forthcoming week and leave it on their peg until the end of the week.

PE Days

Every class at GLPA has two one hour blocks of timetabled PE time per week.

Please refer to your child's termly curriculum booklet that highlights the days your child has PE.

Please ensure all jewellery is removed on PE days.

Children are not permitted to wear jewellery during PE due to health and safety regulations. The only exception to this are studs in newly pierced ears. If your child has his/her ears newly pierced the studs must be covered with plasters, for a period of 6 weeks.
