Music at our academy engages, inspires and challenges pupils. It equips them with the knowledge and skills to appraise, perform, compose and record their musical experiences.

We team music weekly and children an opportunity to learn to play instruments as part of the curriculum. In addition to this, we have a wider range of tuition opportunities.

Every year we have a music concert to celebrate progress and talent!

We also have a weekly singing assembly so that children can learn, perform and enjoy music collectively.

Our Music leader is – Miss Henighan.

Our curriculum plan runs from Nursery all the way through to Year 6. The curriculum builds progressively, so that children know and learn more.

Class instruments

Children at GLPA spend two academic years learning an instrument in class. Over the course of their GLPA journey, children experience playing the recorder, the glockenspiel and the ukulele. This is designed to boost confidence, improve fine motor skills and teach performance techniques. The class instruments are assigned to:

Year 1 & 2 – Recorder

Year 3 & 4 – Glockenspiel 

Year 5 & 6 – Ukulele 

Drums

Guitars

Piano

Recorder

Strings

Woodwind

Each year, our Key Stage 2 pupils have the opportunity to take part in Young Voices. This is a national programme, where children are able to perform songs in an arena with other school children, with their parents being invited to be in the audience.

This is a really popular event at Green Lane, but it takes commitment and courage!
